My dp's dd can't do hers at 7 years, and he thinks information technology is terrible! I think he is a chip hard on her. Who is right?

well, information technology depends. i have not bought my dc shoes with laces since ds1 was 18 months erstwhile. so the fact that he cant tie laces at 8.5 is hardly surprising.
im going to let cubs teach him how to practise all sorts of fancy knots
what does annoy me though is that i have to tie his tie every morning time, and accept done so for the final 2 years. little sod doesnt want to learn.

I've often wondered near this. Ds1 is 4.5 and can't practice laces only that's because so many shoes come with velcro now that it's just much easier to buy those. I tin can remember my dad teaching me to tie laces with my brothers shoes - I call back I was 3 or 4 - I could certainly do information technology when I went to school.
I wonder when I'll get round to teaching my boys!!

ds2 nonetheless struggles and he's 10

DS's teacher gave them this as a target to learn to do in yr3 (ie age vii-viii). DS1 didn't manage it. He learned this summer (age merely viii), but only by doing information technology the 'cheats' mode. And he still finds it tricky.

ds can just about practice his . He is 7 1/2 and has motor skill issues and then nosotros felt it important for his confidence that he learnt so his Occupational Therapist taught him about iv months agone. He is very proud that he tin tie his soccer boots (almost of the time) and some others tin't, some even having velcro ones ! Nosotros are at present working on school necktie and top push which he is expected to be able to exercise by Christmas.

Later on than me. Im not certain any of my children tin can do them yet, and the eldest is about 9. Theyve never had a pair of laceup shoes between them though!

We tied dsd'southward (doesn't live with us) until the twenty-four hours we caught her tying the laces for the boy next door. We asked her why she didn't do her ain and she replied "why would I if you were doing information technology for me".

I was five and had to learn information technology in kindergarten.

I call back dd was most viii when she learned. I can remember so conspicuously the day I learned to necktie a bow. We were in the automobile and I was playing with a piece of lilac ribbon, nigh 2cm wide. I think my mum was sitting next to me, which was v unusual. Suddenly, I tied a bow, almost past accident and I was and then excited!! I was probably about 7.

My DD3 who is dyspraxic learnt to tie her shoe laces at 10, she still takes ages to practice them and she is now 13. I spoke to her instructor most thiswhen she was in year 4 and was told that she had a few 8 year olds in the class who could not tie laces and this was quite common.

My DS could necktie laces at about vii, (had velcro before) but at 10 is simply just getting the hang of doing them tightly plenty and so they stay done up!
In the shoe shop recently, trying on school shoes, I was about to tie them (save time) when the banana stopped me. She said, only try the shoes with the laces done upward every bit tightly equally the child tin do them, equally after PE etc, that is how they will be.,
DD could practice hers at 5 (she is at present xiv & no velcro bachelor then. School insisted they could do them if they had laces).

I tin can tell dp to calm down a bit then! But I still recall nosotros'll encourage her to practice information technology. Information technology's simply gonna be difficult I think as we simply take her every other weekend.
tensing Dominicus 02-Oct-05 21:20:xviii
My 8 year old daughter can practise them merely badly, they are always to lose and come undone, and so I end upward doing them.
ThePrisoner Mon 03-Oct-05 00:xiii:18
I am correct-handed, but was taught to tie my laces by a left-handed next-door-neighbour when I was seven, and still tie them left-handed!
ScarySkribble Mon 03-October-05 01:24:28
DS viii can just exercise them very loosly, I remember it is a fast disapearing traditional skill like wood turning and drystane dyking as they never undo laces anyway.

My DS is five and I very stupidly sent DH out to buy him some new trainers. He came back with lace up ones ("It is near time he learned!") and then who gets to take to necktie upwards DS's shoe laces every twenty-four hour period, l times a day? Yeah, ME
grrrrrrrrrrr!
So I accept bought him a "Teach yourself how to necktie your shoelaces" Kit ... from some book club ...
The goal is to learn past his 6th birthday (End of November)
I could definitely tie mine past the fourth dimension I was 6 ... they didn't have velcro in those days did they so we had to larn didn't we?
goldenoldie Mon 03-Oct-05 08:40:51
My DS tin can't do his at 10, only to exist honest we have only had a couple of half-harted attempts at showing him and all shoes/trainers are velcro.
SleepySuzy Mon 03-Oct-05 xx:08:57
Do they not teach this at school these days??
hunkerpumpkin Monday 03-Oct-05 20:x:10
I know somebody who is in his 30s and struggles with laces. Honestly. And it'southward not DH
vickiyumyum Mon 03-Oct-05 twenty:11:48
ds1 was about 7 when he finally mastered it properly, probably mosly due to having velcro shoes and trainers earlier for convenience.
